Barrels (225 to 600 l)  > FRENCH HAUTE FUTAIE OAK (fully grown timber)

A raw material which is as noble as it is precious.

Our recommendations of use
French Haute Futaie oak ennobles wines which have a rich and complex nature.

Benefits for your wine
A complex and balanced contribution.
It brings a noble structure to the wine, with finesse and elegance, without aggression, preserving the fruit and aromas of the wine.

Origin and organoleptic characteristics of French oak

The sessile oaks (Quercus Petraea) come exclusively from the national forests. They are treated on the principle of annual regeneration and are PEFC certified.

Selection is carried out tree by tree on poor soil, preferably sandy, for a slow and regular growth. SEGUIN MOREAU selects individual trees of 150 to 200 years old, with a diameter of between 50 and 80 cm. This rigorous selection, exclusively Haute Futaie, results in :
• A contribution in aromatic components 4 times richer than the peduncle oak.
• A contribution of noble tannins which favor the expression of those contained in the grape.
• A steady oxidation of the wine, thanks to the texture of the grain which balances the exchange with the outside atmosphere.

The French forest and the O.N.F.

Created in 1966, the French Forestry Commission (O. N. F.) is the heritage of the body of «Maîtres des Eaux et Forêts» (Masters of Water and Forests) founded in 1291 by Philippe le Bel. Of the 12 million hectares managed by the ONF and its 8000 agents on the French territory, the national forests of Haute Futaie cover 1.75 million hectares i.e. only 15% .
A key player in the wood industry, the O.N.F. produces 50% of French oak wood put on the market, while reconciling ecological and social considerations. Certified PEFC, the O.N.F. thus demonstrates that we can reconcile sustainable forest management with economic considerations.
